The property is provided with a dry riser installation designed to help firefighters easily access water on all floors and compartments during firefighting operations. These will typically be made up of a system of water inlets, pipes, and outlets spread out through the building across all levels. These systems are normally situated along the building's firefighting shaft.
The inlet and drain valves are located at or near the entrance of the building and there is an air release valve at the far end of system to allow the water supply to force air out of the system when it is used.
The outlet valves must be kept shut at all times.
